This Handbook offers readers a comprehensive set of actionable strategies for effective team-based science. More than 100 experts from a wide range of disciplines and professions explain evidence-based principles; highlight state-of the-art strategies, tools, and resources; offer approaches to reduce barriers and address challenges; and share first-person accounts of how they’ve used these approaches in their own successful team science initiatives.
This review article, featured in a special issue of American Psychologist devoted to the study of teams, summarizes the empirical findings from the SciTS literature. Key themes include: evidence for the value of team science (TS), team composition and its influence on TS performance, formation of science teams, team processes central to effective team functioning, and institutional influences on TS.
Research on complex problems requires integration across boundaries. Intereach’s purpose is to articulate and promote the need for dedicated, high level career paths around interdisciplinary research expertise, and to build resources to improve practitioners' tools, best practices, success metrics, and institutional support for these emerging intentional career trajectories.
